Former FSU star quarterback Jameis Winston has traded addresses – from Bessemer, Alabama to San Diego, California – at least for the next few weeks, as he prepares for the upcoming NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
Winston is working with noted quarterback coach George Whitfield Jr. who in the past has trained with quarterbacks like Andrew Luck, Johnny Manziel and Cam Newton.
Whitfield talked about Winston to ESPN back in January.
“He’s ready to make the step (to the NFL),” Whitfield said. “Competitive temperament, he’s elite. You’ve seen him out there. We saw him doing that at 17 years old at Elite 11 – competing, that no-flinch mentality.
“And then from a game perspective, he flies the similar type of vehicle they fly in the NFL. You watch him, he has a great understanding of pocket awareness, he makes a lot of anticipatory throws, and he can throw guys open. He’s been doing this, not for an incredibly long time, but for the (27) games we’ve seen him do this, he’s done it arguably as well, if not better, than anybody else has.”

I can only hope they pick Winston. I believe he is the Best QB in the draft.
Mariota has also been training in San Diego, only it’s with Kevin O’Connell and Ryan Flaherty of Prolific Athletes. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-draft-scout/24993415/nfl-draft-injury-could-keep-mariota-from-throwing-at-combine
pinkstob, good info on Mariota, if we pick him I hope his shoulder is good to go.
It’ll be very interesting to see if Mariotta throws at the combine and if Winston throws. You know the throws winston can make, I would really like to see Mariotta throw at the combine. If WInston does and MAriotta doesn’t, there is no way you can take mariotta.
Im in the same boat as you. I may be wrong about this, but I think its a little cop out to wait till your school day to throw because your doing it with wr’s you know and the plays are a lot more scripted. At the combine your throwing to all different wide outs from different schools making it harder.
I’d hope Tampa would get the right selection at QB Winston who I believe is the best QB. I think winston is more better prepared qb.Look at who FSU faces compare to oregon. I say draft winston. He’s not Johnnie Football! GO BUCS
Looking forward to the combine.
I’m with 27, that shoulder of his is a big concern. I could tell he was hurt when the defender landed on him full weight. It also brings into question how he’ll hold up to the nfl pounding. If Winston throws, M.M. doesn’t it clinches it for me.
“As well if not better than anyone else has”. Pretty strong words. But some here want to ignore that with a “Yeah but…………he said a bad word in the Student Union.”
so funny~I began this season being 100% in the Mariota camp, couldnt wait to see him in a Bucs Jersey…Then I went to the Rose Bowl and everything changed…I am now fully in the Winston camp…Hopefully we land the right guy and begin a new winning era in Tampa…
If there were no off-the-field-issues, I would be a Winston supporter. He is an extremely talented guy.
If the BUCs pick him, I just hope he keeps his nose clean.
I share the concerns about MM’s shoulder.
Regardless of who the BUCs go with, I think they will get an above average qb.
if it is Winston they pick, I will just keep my fingers crossed for the next few years!
Winston should be the pick if we stay at No.1.
