Through five games, the Buccaneers have been busy on the weekly awards circuit. Add another name to the list.
On Friday afternoon the National Football League announced that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has been voted Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for Week 5.
Against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Winston completed 13-of-19 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown for a passer rating of 122.5 in the team’s 38-31 win. His 11.0 yards per attempt rank as the second-best mark by any quarterback in Week 5, while his 122.5 passer rating was the fourth-highest in the NFL last week. Winston’s 122.5 passer rating also stands as the fourth-best mark by a rookie in Buccaneers history.
This is Winston’s second Pepsi Rookie of the Week Award (also Week 2 at New Orleans). He joins former Buccaneers running back Carnell Williams as the only players in franchise history to win the award more than once (Williams won Weeks 1-3, 2005). This is Tampa Bay’s third Pepsi Rookie of the Week Award this season (LB Kwon Alexander, Week 3 at Houston). The Buccaneers also won three in 2005 (Carnell Williams).
