Don’t get all the love for man with real character issues being the face of the bucs. How much did the school cover up? M.M. is a better man and will be a better qb in this league.
I don’t think the Bucs are trading down at all. They need a franchise QB and there are two guys to decide from. It takes a franchise QB to get a team to the playoffs and to the Super Bowl….REYNOLDS
Don’t tell that to Russell Wilson who has been to the last two SBs……
I’m sorry but drugging a women and raping her is not some stupid college stuff.
Drugging her huh? I must’ve missed that part in the toxicology and rape kit that was done on her after the alleged incident.
Pretty slanderous there. But if you do have evidence, which I’m sure you do with a statement like that. Please report it and solve this mystery for everyone.
And you’re basing that ignorant comment on what evidence?
Winston’s own father has said in the past that he needs a chaperone. as an explanation for his behavior. That is not exactly an endorsement from somebody who was close to him.
It’s incredible to me that some people must lead such clean idealistic and sinless lives that they find Jaimis Winston’s fraternity brother type stunts totally intolerable. Stupid but also quite common. As Scott eluded, many, if not most, college students are probably not proud of their college behavior. They just aren’t in the public eye. People need to accept that there was no “rape”. To me it looks more like a young college girl regretting her actions and needing an excuse to tell her boyfriend. Think she didn’t have a clue as to what might evolve when she agreed to accompany Winston from the bar to his room? Of course she did. Did she go screaming down the hallway battered and bruised? No. Most young college students have sexual encounters; but here we believe that is a character flaw. Having sex is not a crime…..unless, like #99, you have to pay for your booty call. Does trying to cash in afterwards mean the girl should be given a new title?
Scu-Here’s the major problem with your opinion when you say ” we have all done stupid college stuff even Scott Reynolds” The BIG difference is we didn’t win the heisman and were the qb of a major university where as Winston is upheld to a high standard, comparing the average college student to the qb of major university is laughable. I have heard of guys drinking like Manziel and Favre, Leinart and banging women, what I have never heard of before is a heisman trophy winner stealing crab in a city where he is the most recognized and standing on a table and shouting obsceneties to the student body then lying to his coach about it- that speaks volumes about his character as much as you try and minimize those issues, . Again Scott Reynolds nor you or I were ever in the spot light as Winston so we can’t compare are mediocre lives to the heisman tropy winner and national championship winning qb, compare Winston to past elite players you might not like the candiadtes you will remember who were character flawed atheletes, Jamarcus Russel, Vince Young, Cam Newton, Lawrence Phillips, Maurice Clarett, AJ Nicholson etc
That’s the point JonnyG. He’s in the spotlight and most of us were, as Keyshawn Johnson would say, were “flashlights.” I agree, that Winston should have done a better job protecting his image and take on more responsibility to understand that as the BMOC he has to elevate himself from the masses. But he was 19 years old and probably not as savvy about such things as a guy like Bill Clinton or even George Costanza when he uttered the excuse “Was that wrong?” But each of the incidents was pretty darn minor to me and if he’s the best QB “by far” available I’m taking him and make the assumption he’ll accept his role and all that comes with it.
In a court of law they are minor offenses, but what I’m judging is the character of a man who is the spotlight and continues to make irresponsible decisions and lies when asked by his coach, are to say if this was your son you would minize the actions by saying the famous “boys will be boys” line? most often used by irresponsible and enabling parents across america, lol Would you hire a guy for your business who had these “minor” transgressions? If you would then you are a different parent and employer than I am and we will agree to disagree
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Concerned at how much Pewterreport is pushing this Winston pick. College fan isn’t stealing and being in a position where rape can be accused, falsely or not. My guy says I don’t trust him and this was before all of this crap came out. Seems like he is always saying what he knows everyone wants to hear. Remember all of the previous heisman winners reaching out to him and he wouldn’t take their calls? Kid has horrible judgement. Give me the guy you don’t worry about when you go to sleep at night and his going to work his tail off to get better.
If you believe like Magoo he raped that girl, even though there is zero proof, I can see where you wouldn’t want to draft him. Drugged, really? I have not read that anywhere. Personally I don’t believe her, like everyone who really investigated the case. To me it seems like Winstons’ been the victum, since people believe he’s a young Bill Cosby. BB gun shooting, walking off with crab legs in college, should be a credited course. So if those are the reasons some don’t want him to be a Buc, I can’t change their minds. If you look though the B.S., you’ll want the best Q.B. in the draft, it’s not close, it’s Winston.
I believe that the drug accusation was one of the first stories she told. Then after the toxicology report came back NEGATIVE she changed her story. I’m with scubog on this, she went willingly and left without screaming wolf tells the story.
Yes kinderrt, that was one of the 5 or 6 times she changed her story. I’ve read every police report to make a concerned judgment for myself and she doesn’t look good at all when you look at the facts.
cgmaster27, I received a call from the Bucs yesterday about my renewal of my season tickets. We got talking about the draft and I expressed my opinion about drafting Winston in a positive way. She said that they have received both positive and negative calls about both QBs. Looks like they will pick the player they want as the fan base is about spit and will not have much influence either way. That should be a positive for Winston as most experts believe he is the better QB.
Correction..split, not spit, auto correct at work.
You know the Bucs looked the other way to the red flags with Williams and Sapp. Suh is the dirtiest player in the NFL, and Winston will be phenomenol only until he gets a big contract and then he will be just another Williams. Mariota will surpass him and the Bucs would be foolish to miss him!
My attitude about Winston changed as to his behavior once I read some of the police reports. People do stupid things when they drink especially young kids. Sex comes right into play and I was no saint while in college and neither were some of my dates. I did a lot of dumb fraternity stuff, but 50 years ago ground rules were different than today’s rules, but also all the strong drugs weren’t around either like they are today. I still saw no proof that Winston has done anything terrible, but needs to be called out to grow up and watch who you run with. I’m for picking Winston. He will be a good player for many years. Go Bucs!
Agree Horse, 50 years ago social media and news coverage was not around like it is today. Today athletes are always under the microscope as the Media is always looking for a story.Today’s athletes have to be more mature and smarter then years ago, everyone is watching. Yes, Winston needs guidance and I believe Lovie will make sure he gets it. Winston is a great talent, it would be a shame to see this young man ruin his career like so many other athletes.
Back in my days at University of Tampa I never did drugs, didn’t drink, never got in trouble with the law, graduated with a 3.5 average. I did chase the girls and somewhat stalked my wife (now 45 years) but they seemed to like me and didn’t run too fast. I did race my 67 RS Camaro up and down Gulf to Bay and down US 19 on occasion. Maybe I could have been a QB in the NFL if I could have learned to read defenses and throw out of the pocket like ummmmm, well you know.
Is M.M. to perfect? Don’t know about you, but as B.J. put it, I’d rather laugh with the sinners, then cry with the saints, the sinners are much more fun!!!
There is a lot we as fans don’t know and will never know. While I am not looking for a saint, my biggest concern is that JW’s immaturity and apparent lack of moral compass will lead to him getting arrested or benched by the league.
Because he will be THE MAN, his loss will be more of a negative impact than a tight end or middle linebacker.
Can I trust you? Can I rely on you?
Those are two very important questions that must be answered YES from the “face of the franchise”.
I heard Derek Brooks has endorsed Winston. If that is true, because of my total respect for “Mr. Derreck Brooks”, I am willing to take a chance on JW.
Maybe both QB’s will turn out ok. I hope the Bucs choose wisely. (for a change)
