Impossible? I don’t think you can ever go that far in regards to an opinion. There is a statistical correlation between age of a player and the number of games a player is healthy for. Gordon’s problem has been drug tests/attitude. Which is a personal decision. Age is not. You also have to remember that drug issues can go away with a change…[Read more]

I had not realized that Josh Gordon is realistic because nobody had mentioned him. I think he would be a better gamble than Desaun Jackson.

He spoke his mind about how he felt. There is nothing wrong with what he said. Even though it may contradict what other people may think, it was not degrading just a more traditional view point. That has not changed my view that Jameis has outstanding character and charisma. As a matter of fact it may have strengthened my view that he is a…[Read more]

I have been saying that the Bucs need to trade up a few spots but I think a 2nd round pick is too much when a solid RB/TE/WR should be available a few spots lower. Almost every mock draft has at least one of (Fournette, Cook, OJ Howard, Ross, Davis, Williams) still available by the time the Bucs pick. If they get any one of those guys I think we…[Read more]

1. I don’t think Martin has any leverage. I think the Bucs can cut him and then offer him the lowest contract possible with no worry of another team matching that offer
2. Agreed. No on McCaffery and if Howard or Davis drop to the early teens then the Bucs need to trade up to get one of those guys. Especially considering that Washington…[Read more]

In regards to ranking Jameis, there are only a couple QBs under the age of 30 that are playing that well. Of those, 2 of them (Mariotta and Carr) are recovering from nasty broken legs. You include durability, age and character, there isn’t any QB that I would trade Jameis for.
You made some good points about Martin. I thought releasing and…[Read more]

Trevor, I thought that was one of your better articles. I felt I was able to understand all of the points you were making.
The defense started to play much better around the time that Hargreaves started making plays. Plus the Bucs needed help in the secondary. Therefore I think the guy was the right pick.

I would prefer they pass on this guy and use a later round pick for RB. Too much of a gamble.

Cousins had to be franchise tagged because he wouldn’t accept a top tier long term offer, but he isn’t a top tier QB.
Flacco would have a better team if his contract wasn’t eating up a good portion of their cap.
Yes it is easier for Brady than other QBs but I believe Jameis is capable of reaching that level. Especially when you see how much…[Read more]

I read an article about how it all starts with Tom Brady. He took less than he could have made and they use that in every negotiation. If he is willing to put the team first then everybody is expected to do the same. Which is the exact opposite of players like Kirk Cousins or Joe Flacco. They put their ego ahead of winning a Super Bowl. Which…[Read more]
jshumaker commented on the post, Bucs Mock Draft Roundup 2.0: Howard Tops List, But Opinions Vary 1 week, 3 days ago
Pat, There is no doubt that most of the national media is oblivious to how much the defense started to come together for the second half of the season. Especially for DE/CB/S although I have frequently stated that McCoy needs some help. It is rare for a DT to be dominant as long as McCoy has.
I also agree with the 5 guys you have listed.…[Read more]

Of course we want to see Jameis model his game after Brady. What team doesn’t? Although of all the young QBs in this league I think Jameis has the best chance of being the next Brady.
In regards to DeSean, I want to see Licht follow the other model of the Patriots. Which is to target quality players that have a couple years left in their…[Read more]
If Howard is available or even close enough for the Bucs to trade up and get him, I think that should be their first choice. The only reason I say that is because Jameis likes to throw to his TE’s. If Howard is not available then get the best available WR (probably Ross) and then get a TE at a later pick. But get him a good TE because that is…[Read more]

Hank, that was what I liked about Howard not only would he give Jameis another big target but can help the o-line also. IMO, the 1st round pick must be a play maker on offense even if it requires trading up a few spots to get the right guy
jshumaker commented on the post, Former Bucs Safety John Lynch Snubbed Once Again for HOF 2 weeks, 6 days ago
If he didn’t get in this year, then I think it will be several years before he even has a chance. Not only as you mentioned that next year’s eligible class is brutal, but Troy Polamalu and Ed Reed are eligible right after them. As much as I like Lynch I don’t think he should get in before either of those guys. Some will argue that he shouldn’t…[Read more]

I didn’t specifically mention sign Evans and still have some carry over for next year but yes that is what I meant. So I agree completely
jshumaker commented on the post, Bucs Begin Extension Talks With Gholston, Hawley, Other Pending Free Agents 1 month ago
The Bucs have the cap space and all of them have played well enough to get resigned. Then after all of the contracts are taken care of, I believe they should spend some money on a free agent. Not a free for all like when Lovie came in, but some money should be spent on free agents when there is that much available.

Honestly I hope he cleans his life up and we resign him at a very cheap rate
Not to make light of his situation, but if it was cocaine that he was using that was one of the most expensive lines that anybody has ever snorted

I also have stated multiple times that we need a DT to help and eventually replace McCoy because sooner or later he will start to wear down. Although I would prefer a 2nd or 3rd round pick on DT. But if this is a deep WR draft but not deep in DTs then I think the match of need and availability takes preference.

*Noah Spence’s emergence in the second half of the season was very impressive and should alleviate the Bucs need for pass rush help. Plus Koetter is an offensive guy. I would be stunned if our first pick is on the defense
