Once again the Buccaneers running game was nowhere to be found on Sunday.
The defense played well, keeping the team in the game all the way up until the fourth quarter. But along with a dismal 147 yards through the air that included seven sacks on McCown, the Bucs running game proved to be just as useless for the offense.
“It’s unfortunate that we weren’t able to get the ball moving,” said Doug Martin. “If we’re not able to run, it’s going to affect the offense.
“The defense did an awesome job, (though)” he continued. “Held them out of the end zone when they were on the goal line. There were a lot of field goals that they were forced to quit. You have to take your hat off to the defense.”
Martin finished the game with 10 carries for 17 yards, making it the tenth time in as many attempts that the former Pro Bowler failed to eclipse 100 yards – and eighth time falling short of 50. To put his season in perspective, Bobby Rainey has started five games for the team – half as many as Martin – and still leads him 406 to 369 in rushing yards.
It’s no secret that Martin’s had his share of misfortunes, though. Between injuries and arguably the leagues’ worst offensive line, it would be difficult for most running backs to produce solid numbers. However, his inability to find any rhythm and rapid decline from his rookie success is hard to make excuses for.
Yet despite another disappointing day, Martin remains positive for the future.
“It started out rough,” he said. “I had the knee (injury), then the ankle. It’s getting back to my old self. It was a challenge and overall, just getting the run game going because it’s something that we’ll get to. It’ll take some time, but, in the future, we will get better in all phases of the game.”

Running game doesn’t matter in the NFL. The NFL is passing league.
Right – And Eddy Lacy is just window dressing for Arron Rodgers – NOT!!!!!! If you can’t run the ball your QB gets sacked 7 times and gets the snot knocked out of him!!!!
O’ God Help This Team ????????
And yet another Martin bash while pimping Bobby Rainey. The running game is horrendous; but can we stop casting all of the blame at the feet of # 22 while constantly pointing out the modest accomplishments of #43. The problem is that pathetic offensive line, a QB that is no threat and being behind on the down and distance and scoreboard throughout the game. Oh, and a play-caller who is totally lost.
